Transmission Won't Shift... It may not be a transmission problem at all!

This morning, the first call of the day was a young lady who was absolutely in a panic. She was telling me that someone had diagnosed her Volkswagen Jetta as needing a new transmission. After taking a few minutes to explain to her that the world was not coming to an end, I got her to bring the car in for a free diagnostic service. A diagnostic needs to be performed before any transmission repair can be completed!

After receiving the car, we checked it out and guess what... her transmission was fine!

The ignition switch had malfunctioned causing other issues. A quick change of the ignition switch and PRESTO a vehicle that runs just fine!

No need to panic. It is our recommendation that before your blood pressure goes through the roof, let our techs perform the free diagnostic service on your vehicle. Transmission Repair in San Antonio has never been easier than it is at Select Transmission & Automotive.

Call us at 210-599-9958 or look us up online at SanAntonioTransmissions.net for more information in how to save money while having your car fixed!

Why do you diagnose for free?

At Select Transmission & Automotive, we get questioned all the time regarding our free basic diagnostic service. People are very curious about it.

Why do we do it?

We feel that the best type of consumer is an educated one. When it comes to transmission repair or automotive repair, the last thing that we want is for a customer to feel like we blind sided them with major repairs with no advance indication.

What does the free diagnostic include?

The free diagnostic service that Select Transmission & Automotive provides is a three part process.

First, we road test the vehicle. During a road test, our well trained technicians will be able to experience the problem that you are experiencing. This is very important, because they will know exactly what you are trying to correct.

Second, we connect the vehicle to one of the most advanced diagnostic machines available. By doing this, we are able to view and monitor almost all of the systems in the vehicle. Most later model vehicles have multiple on board systems that monitor everything from exhaust gas levels, engine misfires, solenoids, engine temperatures and much more. By viewing the diagnostic data, we can isolate problems relatively quickly.

The last portion of the diagnostic process is putting the vehicle inside the shop and on a lift. We then visually inspect the car for bad wiring connections, broken wires, leaks or other concerns that are obvious to the eye. Sometimes, what seems like a major problem is nothing more than a wire that has come unplugged.

What if I decide not to do the repairs?

Not completing the repairs at Select Transmission & Automotive might hurt our feelings, but, we don't take it personal. We understand that when it comes to vehicle repair, most people need to budget.

We would like to be the automotive and transmission repair shop in San Antonio, TX that you trust. That is why we offer the free diagnostic service. We are confident that once you meet us, you will want to do business with us.

Select Transmission & Automotive can help you with financing the major repairs (most of our financing is done with NO credit check). We offer lots of convenient payment plans and have the ability to custom tailor a transmission repair payment plan that suits your needs.

Early Warning Signs of Transmission Problems

An automatic transmission is the latest version of manual transmission that was used in cars of olden days. The automatic one changes the gear depending on the speed of the vehicle, thus freeing the driver from the trouble of shifting the gear manually. Whether in US cities like San Antonio and New Braunfels or anywhere in the world, people always prefer cars with automatic transmission.

Since the popularity of automatic transmission is increasing day after day, car manufacturing giants are coming up with modern cars which have only such gear system instead of the old manual transmission. Recently BMW launched 650i Convertible which comes with an 8 speed automatic transmission which offers a lovely combination of flexibility, speed, and sportiness.

Since the automatic transmission can be considered as one of the most complex piece of machinery, a number of warnings are associated with it which you need to be aware of. Some of them are:

1. Leakage: If you notice a small pool of pinkish oil on the ground after taking your car out, then it is a sign of a major problem. Transmissions can leak from a number of external seals, some of which are quite easy to repair whereas; others require the expertise of professional mechanics to deal with. This is often overlooked by most US citizens in cities like San Antonio and New Braunfels which can prove dangerous in the future.

2. Shaking: Sometimes drivers experience a shaking sensation especially while driving at high speeds. This may be due to poor engine tune or in most cases can be due to the malfunction of the vehicle transmission. Best would be to take the vehicle to an expert mechanic.

3. Delayed reverse or drive: When you notice that your car is taking longer than usual to shift the gears once the shifter is put to "D" or "R" then it is a clear sign of a mechanical problem with the transmission. Such delays can be mainly due to low fluid level in the gear box or a band that may require adjustment.

4. Burning smell: If you get a burning smell, it may mean that the transmission of your car is overheating or the fluid is leaking onto the exhaust. This needs immediate attention of a mechanic.

If you are looking for an expert in automatic transmission - San Antonio and New Braunfels are some of the cities in US where residents can hire the services of expert mechanics from Select Transmission and Automotive. They have some of the best mechanics and guarantee upto 3 year or 50,000 miles on their parts. Recovering From The Blast of Cold Weater

Mother Nature has provided South Texas with some rather unusual weather for our area the past couple of weeks. Today, headlines read that we should be on alert for record high utility bills from CPS due to record damand on the power grid, and certainly there are plenty of folks out there who are recoving from repairs to plumbing problems from frozen pipes.

Within the last two weeks, I have towed in more cars with the cooling systems frozen solid. It is so often that we ignore the little things on our vehicles, forgetting that at anytime, something as simple as the weather could turn things upside down. Now, these frozen cooling system can cause extensive damage, several of the repairs cost the vehicle owners over a thousand dollars.

It is so easy to keep our vehicles prepared for the worst. It is certainly much better to spend a little amount of money now to keep from having to spend a thousand dollars or more unexpectedly. A simple coolant service would have kept these vehicles from suffering they way that they did in the extreme cold weather. A coolant service generally is only $59.95. Thats a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Remember, the hottest part of the year is quickly approaching. The cooling system struggles even more during the harsh hot temperatures. Be proactive, and take the right steps now to prepare your vehicle for the upcoming weather, and to keep you on the road.

San Antonio Automotive Repair and Maintenance

Brakes, Tune-Ups, Oil Changes and Scheduled Maintenance... it can all be a little overwhelming without proper explanations and truly understanding what is being done to your vehicle and why.

The factory has recommended maintenance for your vehicle. Does that mean that everything on the list has to be done at one time? Heck NO! It means that at the particular interval you are at, you should start being aware of that system on your vehicle to head off potential problems at the pass.

Coming into Select Transmission and Automotive will save you money. We will not recommend repairs that do not need to be completed, we will provide you with an honest assessment of your vehicle and of any repairs or maintenance concerns that need to be addressed. We will physically show you the items that we are talking about to make sure that you completely understand what we are talking about.

Dealerships make a lot of money selling you "scheduled maintenance" when quite frankly, most of the things that they are doing to your vehicle are totally unnecessary.

Call Select Transmission and Automotive in San Antonio, TX for all of your maintenance and repair items for your vehicle, it will be the best call you have ever made. That's a promise.

Do you really know what is wrong with your car?

I received a call yesterday from a gentleman who had a problem with his F150. He was having issues with some overheating and some oil loss. His initial thought was that he had blown the head gasket, and took it somewhere else to be checked out. I am almost certain that he told the other repair facility his thoughts, and behold, they tried to sell him head gasket service. This is a very costly repair once you factor everything in like the machine service and all of the other parts required to do the job correctly. Unhappy with the estimate he received, he called us for a quote on a head gasket service, and we gave him the price and told him that we would have to verify the findings.

Upon completing the diagnostic service, it was painfully apparent that there was nothing wrong with the head gasket at all. He had a severe oil leak and a bad cooling fan. No major repairs required.

He was shocked to hear the conclusion that we came up with. He was shocked that another shop was trying to scam him.

It is way to common. It is never a bad idea to have a second opinion on a vehicle if you are not working with someone that you can trust. Not having trust behind you can cost you a lot of extra money.

Select Transmission and Automotive of San Antonio is dedicated to providing excellent quality repairs at affordable prices. We provide honest diagnostic services and detailed estimates.
